The Gump Generation

Temporary Site Services firm passes from father to son to daughter. By Angela Melero, Staff Reporter For 65 years, the Gump family’s business has been in the toilet: portable toilets, that is. Barry Gump and daughter Nancy Gump-Melancon are the duo behind one of the most recognized family-owned businesses in the Valley,Andy Gump Inc. Since 1946, when Massena “Andy” Gump bought the company from a cesspool and sewer contractor for $300, the company has expanded from portable toilets to many other Temporary Site Services such as fencing, temporary power, and storage containers. With a portfolio of clients that includes KB Home, S&S Development Group and D.R. Horton, the company has weathered the tough economy. Andy’s son, Barry, 69, and his daughter Nancy, 42, have been integral to the company’s success. Neither of them dreamed of joining the business as kids. Indeed, Nancy endured more than her share of teasing in junior high school by classmates who poked fun of her “crappy life.” But the Gumps say they carried on the family tradition because of their inherited desire to help people. Now, after 23 years of working together as father and daughter, Barry is looking to retire and Nancy is about to take command of the company. As a third-generation CEO, she is looking forward to carrying on the family values of honesty and integrity that have always helped the Gumps thrive. Q: How did your family first get into the business? Barry: Just as WWII was ending, my dad had some dump trucks that hauled sand and gravel. Those were the days before ready mixed concrete. When the war was over, he didn’t...

Cystic Fibrosis Foundation

Dear Nancy and Barry: Many many thanks for your generous support of our 25th Culinary Evening with the California Winemasters.  It is really difficult to express just how much your participation means to us.  We are well aware of how many worthwhile causes you are asked to support and we never take your contribution for granted.  You matter.  And your sponsorship makes a huge difference to our success.  I don’t think it is an understatement to say that we could never hold this event without you. Thanks to you, this year’s event proceeds brought our 25-year total to more than $27,000,000 in support of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s vital research and care programs.  When this event began, CF patients were living into their teenage years.  Now, we see our patients living into their 30s, 40s and beyond and every day we are getting closer to a cure for North America’s #1 inherited disease killer of children and young adults.  In a world where times are challenging and so much is beyond our control, our sponsors, vintners, chefs, guests, volunteers and CF Foundation staff truly are making a difference.  We hope you know that you are saving lives and providing tomorrows every day – and for that, there is simply no way to thank you. We hope you’ll mark your calendar for May 16, 2015 for our 26th anniversary event as we wouldn’t want to hold this event without you!! Gratefully, Barbara Balik Director of Special Giving Cystic Fibrosis...

World Portable Sanitation Day 2014

Contact: Nancy Gump Melancon Andy Gump, Inc 24610 Summit Circle Santa Clarita, CA 91350 (661) 251-7721 Andy Gump, Inc. Announces Support for World Portable Sanitation Day (Santa Clarita, CA/Los Angeles County, 15, July 2014) – Andy Gump, Inc., announced today that it will join with the Portable Sanitation Association International (PSAI) and concerned people around the world to recognize and celebrate World Portable Sanitation Day (WPSD) on August 15, 2014. Imagine – Your life without access to sanitation Imagine – Grocery shopping, education, workplace, parks, homes all with no facilities Imagine that you are one of the 2.6 billion people – about one-third of the world’s population – who deal with this challenge every day Imagine that you live in a place where children die because of unclean drinking water Imagine that your daughters cannot attend school one week a month because the school lacks a safe private toilet Imagine your wife and children can only relieve themselves at night – and that they are at risk of attack and rape when they search for a place to answer nature’s call In developed countries like the United States there is the luxury of safe restroom facilities in most buildings, and portable restrooms are available for every situation from natural disasters to recreation events. Portable restrooms provide a solution to some of the world’s sanitation challenges – and they save 125 million gallons of fresh water daily.  That water is desperately needed in many of the countries where sanitation is also an issue. Andy Gump, Inc., invites you to join us in recognizing the first annual World Portable Sanitation Day.  Join...

World Challenge

I just wanted to say thank you so very much for all of the hard work and effort that you put into this year’s World Challenge. What you do every year for the tournament is such an important aspect and you always deliver. It is a pure pleasure to work with you and I appreciate the great relationship that we have formed over the last five years. Your onsite staff (Leo, Richard, John …) operate on such a high level compared to other vendors in your areas of expertise that I have come across in my tenure. I truly wish that you had an East Coast division because nothing even comes close to your equipment and the way you handle yourselves. Thanks for your part in making the tournament a success and I look forward to doing it again next...
