The Andy Gump Story
Since providing portable restrooms to Southern California construction sites in the 1950s,
Andy Gump has been an innovator in Temporary Site Services.
The Family Business
Andy Gump Temporary Site Services is a Southern California success story with a five-decade history. Now welcoming the third generation into the business, our family-owned company still reflects the core values of our founder, Massena “Andy” Gump.
- Your word is your bond.
- Helping people is our goal, not selling a service.
- Respect every person’s contribution. No position is more or less important than another; every job is important to the success of the company.
- Be grateful for your blessings and share with others.
- Never ask an employee or customer to do something you have not done or would not be willing to do.
- Use debt sparingly and pay your bills promptly.
- With God’s blessing, you have to be ready, willing, able and lucky.
Our story began in the San Fernando Valley during the 1940s when Andy bought a septic business for $300.
As the valley’s orchards gave way to subdivisions during the boom years after World War II, Andy branched out.
new ordinance required portable restrooms on construction sites. With the help of sons Barry and Bill, Andy fashioned scrap plywood into portable restrooms in the garage of their Mission Hills home. Wife Irma and daughter Cherilyn took orders and typed invoices.
Andy’s sign painter suggested that he put “Another Andy Gump” on his restrooms, and the name Andy Gump became synonymous with portable restrooms in Southern California.
Barry and Bill soon joined Andy in the family business full-time, and Barry’s wife, Pati, took over the administrative duties from Irma. Barry assumed leadership of the company in the 1970s. He became a licensed electrical contractor and the company expanded into temporary power for construction sites.
The following decade saw the advent of the company’s Special Events Division after Barry led a Los Angeles group of sanitation companies in providing portable restrooms for the 1984 Olympics.
Shortly thereafter, we moved our company headquarters to Santa Clarita, continued adding to our service offerings, increased our service area, and ushered the third generation into the business when Barry and Pati’s daughter Nancy joined the company.
Today, our company continues to thrive by adhering to the founding principles Andy established for us.
We enjoy an outstanding reputation built by our five-decade commitment to helping people, and we look forward to helping you.
Industry Leadership
Since we first began providing portable restrooms to Southern California construction sites in the 1950s, Andy Gump has been an innovator in Temporary Site Services.
We expanded into portable power in the 1970s, and went on to add temporary fencing and barricades, as well as mobile storage and offices, as part of our regular services. After coordinating thousands of portable restrooms for the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, we launched our successful Special Events Division. We set the standard in flushing portable restrooms, designing and building the upscale models featured on film and television locations, and at dozens of high profile sporting events, concerts, movie premieres, and even the 2002 Salt Lake Winter Olympics. Many of our innovations have come in response to customer requests. When they need something we don’t have, we work with them to develop a solution. As our founder Andy Gump always said, “We’re here to help people, not just sell a service.” Another top priority is ensuring we are environmentally friendly.
We’re proud to use recycled paper products, bio-degradable deodorizers, and water-saving sinks and toilets in our equipment. With our record of innovation and dedicated service, we look forward enhancing our reputation as an industry leader for years to come.
Breadth of Experience
With more than five decades of experience, we sometimes like to say we’ve seen it all when it comes to temporary site solutions.
And that’s one of the reasons construction managers, event planners and entertainment production companies call us. They know we have the experience to get the job done, no matter how big, how complex, or how far away it might be.
The other reason they call is because they know we say “Yes!” When these innovative professionals envision something that’s never been done before, they rely on our experience, imagination, and willingness to go the extra mile, to help them bring their ideas to life.
We’ve done it countless times over the years, and we can do it for you too.
Environmental Care
The equipment Andy Gump offers is not only backed by our superior service, but also by our unwavering commitment to environmental care. Wherever possible, we seek to reduce, reuse, or recycle, and help you minimize your project’s impact on the natural environment we all share.
Our restroom units feature:
- High quality paper products made from recycled materials
